Here’s what you need to support Guest OS unmap with Windows and VMWare:

• At least Server 2012 with hotfix KB2878635
  • newer version support natively
  • on older versions use sdelete from Mark Russinovich
• At least hardware compatibility version 11
• VMFS 6 volume
  • VMFS 5.5 can support it with more hoops
